Episode 5 | Corie Mapp | Para-Athlete
Meet a man who lost his legs in war, defied the odds in recovery, and developed one of the most powerful success-mindsets I've ever seen.
This is a heart-rending story of understated courage. About a man who lost his legs but discovered his will and harnessed it to overcome the greatest challenge life could throw at him. This is the story of Corie Mapp, a British war-hero and world champion para-athlete.
It sounds like it should be a movie, and it could be an award-winner, but I assure you Corie’s the real-deal. I spoke to him for little over an hour for Episode 5 of Reading the Game’s podcast series on sports, mindset and books, and what resulted was a truly emotional and invigorating conversation.
I went in thinking “I know this story”: man loses his legs and overcomes all odds to walk again and succeed in life. But I was wrong. We don’t know the day-to-day. We don’t know what that challenge is really like and how a human being can overcome it. So I urge you to listen to this podcast, so you can understand the gut-wrenching process and iron will required to survive. You will learn to value the little things in life and it will push you from third to first gear.
Admittedly, there was a moment when my emotions bubbled as I was drawn into Corie’s most challenging life experience. But he soon talked me through how he turned things around after his daughter’s intervention where she asked him, to start living rather than just surviving. Isn’t that something we should all bear in mind?
We spend so much time complaining about trivial things or procrastinating over important ones and let life pass us by. Corie is not only a captain of his will, he is the master of his time. He is a driven, focused, picture of calm who owns his destiny and leaves nothing to fate.
Now reader, please click the above links and listen to one of the best podcasts we’ve done, and prepare––like Corie does before tunnelling down a bobsleigh run––to go on an emotional but life-giving roller-coaster.
